Happy 8th Birthday, World Community Grid!

World Community Grid celebrates 8 years of advancing critical humanitarian research!

Happy Birthday World Community Grid!

World Community Grid turns 8 on November 16, 2012, and we would like to offer a heartfelt THANK YOU to each of our members who continue to donate their computer power to advance humanitarian research!

Through our members' contributions, we were able to achieve the following during the past year (to see the current statistics, please click here):

  • Members: 26,600 new volunteers joined World Community Grid
  • Devices: Our members registered an additional 289,900 devices
  • Computer Run Time: 142,700 years of computer run time were donated in the past year alone
  • Points: 192 Billion points were awarded to our members
  • Research Results: Our members returned 347 Million results to researchers
  • Partners: 10 organizations joined our Partner program.

    Research Projects:
During the past 12 months, two new projects were launched on World Community Grid - Computing for Sustainable Water and Say No to Schistosoma. These two projects added to the already diverse selection of humanitarian projects running on World Community Grid.

Other accomplishments of the past year:
  • With the launch of GPU capability for the Help Conquer Cancer project, members are now able to return to the researchers 6 times more results per day than before.
  • We reached a significant milestone of returning a total of one Billion results to researchers.
  • World Community Grid scientists published 5 peer-reviewed research papers. Importantly, this is industry recognition of our researchers advancing their work by using World Community Grid.
  • We added another 6 videos discussing various topics and aspects of World Community Grid and the research that is conducted on it.
  • World Community Grid researchers conducted the following 3 project webcasts in the past year, giving the volunteers an opportunity to hear directly from the researchers and learn more about these projects:
More accomplishments are listed in the News & Updates section of our website. You may also keep in touch through our Facebook and Twitter pages.
